Little Machines: Creating a Mechanical Bubble Machine
You will have the opportunity to work with Martin Smith, who’s exhibition Little Machines features his automata sculptures. He will show you around the exhibition and run a practical workshop creating a mechanical bubble machine.
‘Blow a soap bubble and observe it. You may study it all your life and draw one lesson after another in physics from it.’
- Martin will introduce and demonstrate how to use small pliers to sculpt soft wire and aluminium.
- Using these basic techniques the participants will successfully make the necessary parts to create a fantastic 3-dimensional moving kinetic toy.
- These can then be painted and personalised.
Colourful, witty and beautifully engineered, Martin Smith’s automata range from wind-driven swaying trees to tiny beating hearts and a celebratory party-popper table.
